BBQ TOOLKIT:K KIT 2024
K-Kit is a personal design project from my third year at university. We began by selecting an area of interest within our three-person group and decided to conduct research on portable barbecues. By reflecting on and addressing the challenges and issues encountered during the use of a barbecue, we developed our own independent project.

I opted not to redesign the barbecue grill itself; instead, I focused on creating a solution that streamlines the entire barbecue process. Given that our project centers on a Portable Barbecue, it is intended for use in diverse settings, including outdoor environments. Through our research, we discovered that the absence of a designated, clean area for storing food and tools significantly complicates the barbecue experience. Therefore, my design is geared towards enhancing the barbecue rack to address these issues effectively.
During the design process, after extensive research and experimentation, my concept evolved into a compact, high-end 200mm×300mm barbecue toolkit. It contains four essential grilling tools along with dedicated salt and oil bottles. The toolbox itself can be opened to function as a basket, and it features a U-shaped clamp system secured by screws, enabling it to be mounted on any table or shelf. This versatile design not only serves as a platform for holding tools or storing food but also includes external attachments for additional tools, garbage bags, and bottles.
Before constructing the model, I purchased full-scale U-shaped clamps—designed for securing on a tabletop—to conduct weight and tension tests. Additionally, I produced two kits at a 1:2 scale: one version that opens to 90 degrees and includes attached tools, and another that fully opens into a basket form to demonstrate its versatility. I utilized two colors—black and green—with both matte and glossy finishes to offer users a variety of options.
My design aims to create the most minimalistic barbecue toolbox, making it easy to carry while providing versatile functionality beyond merely holding tools. As a basket, it can be directly mounted next to a barbecue grill or on any portable table or chair.
