MOP & BUCKET:脱兔 SPEEDY BUNNY 2023

This three-person group project started with brainstorming, where each member proposed their top three concepts. After developing these concepts, we identified the strengths of each design and improved the weaknesses. Within a limited timeframe of six weeks, we selected the three most critical designs to be improved, with the theme of making the product suitable for people of all ages, especially seniors.
Our design focused on addressing the challenges faced by an elderly couple with physical ailments who had to prepare their home for a visit from their children. The issues they faced while mopping included difficulty reaching under the bed and sofa due to knee and back pain, as well as the heavy weight of a water-filled bucket. They also struggled with the difficulty of lifting and pouring water from the bucket.
To address these problems, we designed a bucket with four wheels that can be locked in place, a highly mobile mop head, and a dual-purpose mop (both dry and wet functions) that allows for mopping and drying simultaneously, reducing the risk of slipping and injury for seniors and children. Additionally, the mop features a high handle that allows the bucket and mop to be pushed, with a waterproof switch installed on the handle to avoid lifting the bucket. Water can be poured out easily without needing to lift the bucket, simply by placing it in a bathroom or low sink.
After developing the design, the bucket gradually evolved into a cute rabbit shape, adding a playful touch to the overall appearance. The rabbit's two eyes are transparent observation windows, allowing users to check the water level or cleanliness inside the bucket. The different water levels give the "rabbit" different facial expressions, adding character. The internal color differentiation helps distinguish between the dry mop head and the wet mop head. The rabbit's ears serve as two high-positioned handles, allowing users to easily push the bucket. The smiling mouth is represented by the two water drainage openings of the buckets.
